Cutomer Relationship Management

According to an article written by Dan Fletcher in Time Magazine on April 7, 2010 entitled "A New Website for Taking Shots at Your Boss," a new site is rolling out that is allowing many professionals to anonymously get out their gripes about an abusive boss and any troubled coworker relationships. The site, Unvarnished is currently in beta testing and allows employees to get and give anonymous reviews and talk about trouble in the workplace. Many experts feel this site will give much deeper insight into the workplace professionalism of employees than sites like LinkedIn or formal job references.

The Unvarnished site works by linking to a user’s Facebook profile. Once in the system, the user can create a profile for the coworker or abusive boss in question, or add a comment to the page that has already been created. The comment details a description of the issue, and assigns a rating to the coworker. Once up, the comment cannot be deleted and stays on for future employees (or employers) to see. Of course, positive comments about good professional relationships are also welcome on all profiles. The site measures each professional’s reputation on a scale of five stars based on the aggregate ratings of all reviews posted.

Releasing Stress in the Workplace is Great, But …

For those that work in small companies where their voice is known and distinctive that want to keep workplace professionalism, written gripe sites like Unvarnished may not be the best option. Also, while identifying trouble in the workplace and “outing” bad coworker relationships can be cathartic, they are not necessarily always the most constructive and can even be permanently damaging.
